SEACOR On-Deck Spill Kit
Usage Guidelines First - Stop the leak and use the scupper plug rugs and sorbent booms, pillows or socks (which ever is the right size) to prevent the spill from going overboard. Open the spill kits and have the cleanup crew put on the personal protective clothing: tyvek suits, boot covers, gloves, glasses, and respirator (there are ten sets, enough for a crew of 4 with a change after lunch, plus one supervisor). If the spill fuel pools in deep enough places, use the manual pump to pump the spill from the deck into an empty bucket or directly into an empty spill kit box. If needed, use both spill kit boxes to temporarily store the fuel. Later the recovered fuel can be pumped to the shipboard waste oil tank. Use the squeegees to help move the oil along side the surface of the deck to the pump suction hose. When there is not enough oil left to pump, then use the sorbent pads to remove the remaining gross oil. For final deck cleanup, the oil sorbent granules can be spread over the stained area of the spill with the schoops. Then the soaked granular material may be removed with the shovels. Oil soaked sorbents, clothing, and granular materials can be put into the plastic bags (it is a good idea to double bag this wasted) and then sealed with the duct tape supplied in the kit. The deck cleaner can be then used for a final cleaning of the spill area. It can be put directly on the deck and using the squeegees moved around cleaning all areas of the stain. Then, sorbent pads can be put directly on the deck and used to pick up this material. Also, a little of the cleaner can be put directly on a sorbent pad and be used to wipe oil off of the deck and vertical structures. To clean the pump and hoses, put some cleaner into one bucket and pump it to another bucket and go back and forth a few times. This will clean the inside of the hoses and the interior of the pump. The rinsate can be put in with the recovered oil for liquid disposal. All items consumed on the cleanup must be reordered prior to the next bunkering in California to stay within compliance of the regulations. All items can be ordered through SEACOR Environmental Products by calling (in the US): (866) 644-3677 or Fax (866) 655-3677. |
